In-Home Care

In-Home Care offers one-on-one care to help maintain independence and safety at home. Services are available from a few hours a day to 24-hour care. The average minimal shift for in-home care is 4 hours.

Overview: Supportive services provided in the home such as companionship, meal preparation, transportation, and assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, and other personal care needs. Services are available from a few hours a day to 24-hour care. The average minimal shift for in-home care is 4 hours. It is relatively easy to start, modify or end services, which may include:

  • Companionship
  • Activities
  • Bathing/showering
  • Dressing and grooming
  • Hygiene care
  • Toileting/continence care
  • Alzheimer’s and dementia care
  • Mobility assistance
  • Transfers and lifts
  • Medication reminders
  • Transportation/errands
  • Planned outings/appointments
  • Shopping and meal preparation
  • Light housekeeping and laundry
  • Pet care

Costs:

  • $37–$40/hour
  • 8 hours/day: $9,120+ /month
  • 12 hours/day: $13,680+/month
  • 24 hours: $27,360+/month

How services are paid for:

  • Private pay
  • Long-term care insurance (LTC) (may have elimination period)
  • Veterans Aid & Attendance pension
  • Medi-Cal—In Home Supportive Services (IHSS)
