Small Board and Care Homes are also referred to as Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE) for age 60+. These settings provide similar services as Assisted Living facilities in a smaller, home-like setting. The majority of Board and Care Homes are licensed for six residents and offer private and/or shared rooms. These smaller settings are held to the same licensing regulations as larger Assisted Living settings.

- Shared room: $3000+/month
- Private room: $4000+/month
- Month-to-month rent
- One-time community fee and/or deposit may be required
How services are paid for:
- Private pay
- Long-term care insurance (LTC) (may have elimination period)
- Veterans Aid & Attendance pension
- Medi-Cal—Assisted Living Waiver Program (ALWP)
